Church Defibrillator

The new defibrillator is located at the entrance to the memorial halls. The ZOLL AED 3 is an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) that is designed to be used for both adult and child victims of sudden cardiac arrest. It allows the rescuer, who may have no training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), to perform the resuscitation by using audio and visual prompts.

In the event of sudden cardiac arrest cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) should be started immediately whilst the AED is being collected. Many people who have not received any training in CPR may be hesitant about performing it. There are many examples of successful resuscitations performed by untrained members of the public who were guided by audio prompts by emergency call handlers. The ZOLL defibrillator pad has a CPR compression sensor (coloured purple) which provides audio and visual prompts for the correct rate and depth of the chest compressions. The use of rescue breaths is not advised for untrained rescuers who should perform compression-only CPR. The following training video by the British Heart Foundation provides instructions on CPR.

This is the link to the new BHF training video which will assess your technique by using your phone camera

A shorter American training video is also available.

The AED is located within a locked external cabinet which can be accessed by calling 999 to get the code.

Instructions on the use of the ZOLL AED are provided in the first 6 minutes of this training video.

The sourcing and installation of the defibrillator would not have been possible without the hard work of George Robertson. Well done and many thanks George.
