Wednesday Brownies

 2nd A Giffnock Brownies

The 2nd A Giffnock Brownie pack is run at Orchardhill parish church on a Wednesday night from 6.15 till 7.30 in the church hall. Fiona Carmichael runs the brownies assisted by the young leaders - Mhairi Glasgow, Fiona Scott, Katrina Moir and Rachael Green.
Our programme includes playing games, having themed nights such as pyjama partys and craft nights, badge nights and learning about charities before fundraising for them. For the upcoming term we have planned a water science night, a Halloween party, a fireworks craft night and singing for the Water Aid charity along with other church groups.
For the past two years we have taken a group of brownies away on camp and intend to do so again this year. In the past we have stayed in a church hall in Ayr situated near the beach and local shops. During the camps we go to the beach, visit the shops and do various activities based around a theme chosen by the brownies. The camps have proved popular with the brownies as there is always a large number of girls eager to attend.
Once enrolled in the brownies the girls learn about the brownie story, the promise and the law which teaches the girls about the values and aims of being a brownie. They will make their promise with their fellow new brownies on a Wednesday evening in front of their parents and the other members of the brownies. They receive a badge and certificate on completing the promise and this is the first night they wear the brownie uniform. After completing the promise the girls can choose badges to complete from the brownie badge book. Part of the work is carried out at home and the rest is completed at brownies and tested on badge test night. Some popular badges include cook, swimmer, artist, musician and friend to animals.
