Company Section - What do they do?

Those in the Company Section take part in the Discover programme, that enables you to . . .

• Take part in a a fun, balanced and challenging 
• Be recognised for your effort and achievement
• Build trusting relationshipsIt's all about learning new skills, making your own decisions and having fun.
  
  The BB provides a safe environment to explore new possibilities and achieve personal goals while making friends and having adventures.
  
  Within Discover there are 3 programme zones as follows:

• Recreation

  And it's up to each young person to work out which opportunities are relevant for them, whether it's improving football skills, podcasting or recycling.

Seniors - What do they do?

Seniors take part in the Challenge Plus programme, which is made up of Projects and Challenges as follows ...

Projects

These include taster sessions that act as an introduction to a topic and are then followed by a longer project that is designed and led by the young people.

Projects are grouped into 3 programme zones . . .

• Community
• Life Skills
• Recreation & Leisure

Challenges

These are focussed on activities that could be completed by the group or as an individual ranging from 'Climb a Munro' to 'Review a local takeaway'.

There are also opportunities to work towards . . .

• The Duke of Edinburgh' Award
• Young Volunteer Awards
• Queen's Badge

It's all about learning new skills, making your own decisions and having fun. BB provides a safe environment to explore new possibilities and achieve personal goals while making friends and having adventures.

And it's up to each young man to work out which opportunities are relevant for him, whether it's sport's officiating, fundraising or DIY.

Every young man should also expect . . .

What else do I need to know?

The Company and Senior Section uniform consists in a blue BB shirt and BB Tie. School trousers socks and shoes complete the uniform.  We try where possible to recycle BB shirts  but you may prefer to get new supplies from either the local BB shop located at

Subscriptions

As you might expect as a charity we cannot exist without support.  Parents are asked to contribute by donating £40 for Anchor Boys, £40 for Junior Section , £55 for Company and Senior Section with reduced rates for more than one brother in the Company.

This amount is requested early in the session as in the main part it is used to pay the BB National District Capitation fees.  

We provide anannual set of accounts and it can be seen over the last few years that despite prudent spending the subscriptions are not enough and dno not provide extra for outings etc.

Parental assistance with transport etc is greatly apprecitated.   We may have to seek further support financially for any outings planned outwith the Halls e.g. swimming, sports etc.

Your purchase will be charged at the normal rate on the company web site and our sponsers (the suppliers) return a small percentage to us.

Remember, any site you visit through our link will get you the same price that you would pay if you went direct to the suppliers site but by clicking though our link here we will get a donation from the supplier.  You can see when you shop how much is being donated to the 86th BB. 

For example, the purchase of a car insurance policy can attract up to a £70 donation for the 86th BB funds. If you later revisit the supplier and do not click through the link above we will not get the donation.  It is handy however to check by going straight to the supplier site that there is no difference at all in visiting through our link.

HAVE YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES TO HELP AT THE COMPANYAND SENIOR SECTION

As always we are on the lookout for full and part time leaders to augment our great team of leaders.   Our leaders do a great job and if you have been a member of the BB in the past or any other youth organisations you will no doubt recall the good experience that you had.   No doubt your time there helped shape your life in some way.

When Sir William Smith founded the BB in 1883 he too had to ask for volunteers.   If those people had not felt the call to help none of the success of the BB worldwide and locally would have happened.   Indeed if Lord Baden Powell had not helped at the BB he may never have felt like forming the Scouts!!

This is a call to YOU and if  you feel challenged and would like to assist in any small way the 86th BB would be delighted to hear from you.

Remember you do not need any special training nor do you require to be specially skilled we just need your time and personality.
