Stepping Stones Newsletter March 2010

Welcome to our 2nd newsletter of the Stepping Stones year. We have lots of exciting things to tell you about. I hope you’ve now had a chance to look at the church website on http://www.orchardhill.org.uk/which will give you up to date information about our programmes and there are example of some of the work that we do with the children.

It seems that a lot has happened since last term. Thank you for all the children’s contributions towards the collection for the Harvest Thanksgiving Service which went to the Lodging House Mission. Also the children managed to raise over £50 for the LHM selling recipes for bread and soup in January, as part of their learning about Homelessness. We hope you enjoyed the film they made ‘Nowhere to lay his head.’

Stepping Stones continues to support the Children of Songea, and Jean and Joyce from the trust visited us as part of our Homecoming Service in November and spoke to the children – thanks to the ladies for coming and sharing with us what the trust is doing with the money the children donate.

Didn’t the children do really well with their contributions to the rest of the Homecoming Service? There was a sketch about the great Scottish missionaries of the past, and of course, everyone loved the Bridge’s Scooby Doo production. The Memorial hall and table decorations were also done by the children and thanks to everyone who helped.

We then had the Nativity of course, which was really wonderful, and thanks to Linda Moir for a beautiful script. Weren’t the children inspiring? The children also seemed to enjoy their Christmas parties and trip to Eastwood Theatre.

We have all been very encouraged by the support for the Prayer Breakfasts from our visiting elders. The next breakfast will be on will be on the 28th March at 8.45am in the end room of the Memorial Halls. We welcome anyone who loves the children of our parish and beyond – not just leaders and parents, but anyone from our church family.

Caroline Stuart has joined Kirsty and Jacquie in our Smartie Gang and we are very grateful for her help. However we have lost another couple of helpers from the other groups, and so we are (as ever) on the look out for more willing volunteers. We run a rota system, and so no-one is expected to be able to come every week. Anyone interested can contact me on 0141 586 0162 or else speak to any of the Stepping Stones leaders after any Service.

Wishing you all the best and praying that God be with you and your families.
