Organist: We welcome Cameron Merriweather to the organ this morning while David Fisher is on holiday. Worship at Noon – every Tuesday in the Session RoomWe invite you to take time out of your busy schedule to join us for a short time of contemplation and worship each Tuesday in the Fellowship Room, starting again on Tuesday 2 September at 12 noon. This has been well received by many and we hope that you will take this opportunity to join together in worship for about 20 minutes each week. The Orchard is open on Tuesdays for coffee, tea, scones and cakes from 10am and serves homemade soup and freshly baked bread from 11.30am until 1pm so why not invite someone new to join you for worship and coffee/tea or lunch where you can enjoy pleasant surroundings and chat with friends?
Holiday Leave: Please note that Chris, Elaine and family are on holiday until Tuesday 28th August.
Elders All Elders, please note to check your entry in the Church Directory. Any changes should be intimated to Fiona Thomson or Margaret Howard as soon as possible, if you have not already done so.
Stepping Stones All departments of Stepping Stones resume on 31st August at 9.45am.
Orchardhill Record – September editionSunday 24 August is the deadline for contributions for the September edition of the Orchardhill Record. Please send contributions by e-mail to bill@billmcmurtrie.com before 1.00pm that day or leave them in the relevant slot in the rack in the church corridor no later than 11am. The editorial team would be pleased to receive contributions sooner rather than later. So send them in today instead of waiting until the deadline date!
This is the ideal opportunity for organisations to advertise the start of their 2008-2009 programmes.

Currently there is a waiting list so please contact Kirsty Flockhart on 586 8867 to add your daughters name to the list, regardless of age. Soundwaves We look forward to seeing back our “pirates” and some new “recruits” on 2nd September in the Church Hall. (6.15 – 7.45pm). Holiday Jar
As is our custom over the summer the Holiday Jar will be in place during the summer for the children to put their summer pennies into during the singing of the first praise. Adults may also contribute. Ideas for the children to think about what the money collected could purchase are listed below.
Goats: We make sure that goats are only sent to areas where the land can support them, and all families are given full training in caring for their livestock. Where it is needed, we also provide housing for the goats, built to specific standards approved by World Vision staff. This initiative really will change the lives of people in Hurungwe, providing a good source of food and income for years to come. You can either buy one goat or push the goat out and buy a whole herd of them!
Chickens: Give new life this Spring. Our project in Chettikulam, Sri Lanka aims to give communities a new income source. Providing families with vaccinated chicks will produce eggs and meat for them to eat or sell. Sheep: Ewe’ll love this gift to help more children go to school in Basa, Senegal. Many families here are sheep farmers, so by starting a sheep-breeding programme, schools can earn money to cover costs while teaching children skills valued by their parents. Water and Seeds: A really splashing idea, which will help communities gain access to clean, safe water. In Addis Zemen, Ethiopia, families often become ill with diseases such as cholera and typhoid from dirty water. Your gift will help us improve the whole community water system, enabling thousands more people to get clean water.
The gift will allow a Sri Lankan family to grow more in their garden. A garden
irrigation kit, using drip irrigation, will help them to conserve water and
also allow the family to grow vegetables in the dry season. |
