Funerals: We remember in our prayers the families of Robert Mooney, Annie Tomkinson and the father of Ian Forbes (penrith Avenue) who passed away this week. Music on the Hill This event takes place on Saturday 22 November at 7;30pm in the Church. Tickets are available from Callum Hunter this week and next two Sundays at Church or speak to Neil Mackenzie , Lindsay Barr, Susan and Harry Taylor or simply come along on the night!
Thursday Housegroup The Thursday Housegroup meets this week at 8.00pm at the home of Gillian Irvine. Our group is evolving with some new members having just joined. Anyone else interested should contact Gillian 571 2778 or Jane 638 6947.
Life and Work The cost of Life and Work for 2009 will remain at £1.60 per copy or £19.20 for the year, Any change to the present order should be made known to Bill Yuill (638 2400) by 16th November.
Orchardhill Record – December DeadlineContributions for the December edition of the Orchardhill Record should be in the editorial team’s hands no later than Sunday 23 November. Please send contributions by e-mail to bill@billmcmurtrie.com before 1pm that day or leave them in the relevant slot in the rack in the church corridor no later than 11am. If your contribution includes a photograph or similar file, please send it by email without delay before the deadline. Photographs should be of as high a resolution as possible and should be in a separate file, not embedded in the article. Dinner-for-8 The Fellowship Task Group would like to hear from any couple who would like their names added to the pool of people who are taking part in the re-launch of Dinner-for-8. If you are interested, please contact Shona Cook, tel. no. 644 1354, by 25th November at the very latest. (Dinner-for-8 is where four couples meet socially, in your own time, to enjoy a meal over a period of four or five months with a view to getting to know everyone a little better). Lodging House Mission – Shoe Box Appeal Following the success or previous shoebox appeals, we are being asked by The Lording House Mission to fill shoeboxes for distribution to their clients who are living in hostels. Please wrap your box in Christmas paper, mark it for a man or a woman (depending on its contents) and bring it to the church on or before Sunday 14th December. The following items are suggested for inclusion in the box(es)
Lodging House Mission – Fundraising Concert 16th November This Concert will take place in St Mungo’s Cathedral, Glasgow at 7pm and admission programme is £5. See notice board for further details.
Fusion Ceilidh Please note that the Ceilidh scheduled to take place on Saturday 29th November has been changed and will now take place on Saturday 24th January 2009.
Macmillan Taste of Christmas. Our annual Christmas event is on Wednesday 12th November, 7-9pm, at Giffnock Bowling Club. Macmillan cards, gifts as well as Usborne books, designer handbags and Phoenix cards and gift-wrapping paper will be on sale. Get into the seasonal mood with mulled wine and mince pie! You could get a catalogue and place an order with Irene Kinniburgh (638 3722) or Helen Blackie (639 1425).
Church Without Walls ‘Coming Home 2009?’ The conference (held at Macdonald, Aviemore, 11 – 13 January 2009) is designed to help us engage with the theme and to explore and develop creative ways in which we can all work together in mission. It will focus on the power of the “local” to engage the “global” and vice versa and will take into account the differences in mission strategy for rural locations, cities and towns. Café Church - the latest evangelical fad or a powerful tool to reach contemporary culture? Join us for a fascinating day exploring Café Church - what it is, who it's for and how it works. Several churches are pioneering this model of mission in different formats and there will be plenty of time to engage with them and others who will be sharing the day with us.
