SoundWaves
SoundWaves SoundWaves needs help Do you have an hour to spare early Tuesday evenings?? We would really appreciate someone with an interest in music, and children to help with our instrument time. You don’t need to be an expert, just enthusiasm and patience! If you, or someone you know, ever played recorder at school then this is for you. Please contact Alice Jack (571 1803) or Susan Taylor (577 7065) to discuss what is involved. SoundWaves children’s music group began in November 1990 with 33 boys and girls and its first stage show, “Holy Moses” was in May 1991. The emphasis has been to encourage children to develop their musical talents – singing and instruments – and enjoy being part of various sized musical groups. There are also opportunities for solos in our public performances. We want the children to have fun and develop a lifelong interest in music. Many have gone on to play with the Praise band in the Church. Our present Young Leaders were all members and four of our former members are now professional musicians! Weekly rehearsals take place in the Church halls from 6.15 – 7.45pm on Tuesdays from September through to our show (usually May). Instrument groups include strings, recorders, wind (children bring own for these) and tuned/non-tuned percussion owned by SoundWaves. The annual stage shows have included as diverse productions as “Rats”, “Bach” and “Joseph”! We use the stage facilities in the Memorial Halls and use costumes, scenery and curtains we have made. The sound system and stage lighting were purchased from money bequeathed to the Church. Many of the youngsters are involved with the Church in other ways. SoundWaves has contributed to many Sunday services and every December in the Church we present the Christmas story and message. SoundWaves has also donated a huge amount to various charities, many linked to Church of Scotland projects, from monies raised from show profits and specific fundraisers ……..over £10,000.00 in the last 18 years. Alice and Susan have been involved since its first year and with the help of many others – some for over 10 years - are keen that SoundWaves continues to offer a musical platform for the youngsters in the community. Contact - Alice (571 1803) or Susan (577 7065) - for more information, registering or if you are interested in helping. |
